BLINK

I got tagged a while ago, but I'm just now feeling inspired to post on the book I'm reading.  I bought a hardback copy of BLINK by Ted Dekker for $5!  My favorite Christian book store is going to offer five different books for five bucks every month.  I love it.

Anyway, before I post three sentences from page 125, I have to tell you my husband's take on the novel...He climbed in bed with me last night (where I was reading) and I started to tell him what the book was about.  Then I stopped.  See, I had just read the scene where a muslim girl is drowned for not having sex with her husband.  And knowing my snarky husband (who excels at shocking comedy) he was going to make a sexist joke.  I explain this to him.

"Come  on," my husband begged, his curiosity growing.  "What's the book about?"

So I told him.  Then I waited.  He didn't say anything for a moment, and I started to laugh because I knew he was thinking really hard.

"No joke?" I asked.

"Nope.  Though if you're feeling guilty, you better find a snorkel."

Ahhhh!  It was a horrible thing to say, but I laughed about it all night.

ANYWAY, the book is pretty good.  The male protagonist is brilliant--I love the line: "If you don't lose your wits over some things, you have no wits to lose."  The plot is intriguing.  (It reminds me a little of my favorite Nora Roberts book SWEET REVENGE.)  The only thing that could be improved is the female character's emotions...but then Tedd Dekker is a guy, so I'll let him off easy.  BLINK is being made into a movie, but I'm just excited to get back to reading.  If you haven't read it yet, here's a sample of what you're missing.

"Then you have nothing to fear.  Tell me who's plotting with Sheik Al-Asamm."  Hilal would kill them both.

I'm supposed to tag others to do this, but I think all my blog friends have already been tagged.  So if you haven't played along yet, go ahead and join in the fun by leaving a comment.  Simply grab the book you are reading or the closest one to you, find page 125, skip the first five sentences, then post the next three.

I Wish I Were a Baller

At Jordan's last Upward practice, my husband (the coach) had the 3rd and 4th graders play against their dads.  It was great fun.  The dads were so much bigger that they could block with their legs.  They were jumping up and down like monkeys while guarding and basically just slapping the ball around and slam-dunking (on the nine foot rim).

The boys took it so seriously at first.  They were as aggressive as Tazmanian Devils out there, but the dad's kept goofing off.  One dad put his son on his shoulders so the kid could dunk, and my husband stole the ball and dribbled across the court while carrying Jordan under his arm.

Then one boy fell on the ground and started crying.  When the dads stopped to see what was wrong, he jumped up, stole the ball, and made a basket while calling them all, "Suckers!"  After that the kids lightened up.  Another boy kept having the ball stolen while he dribbled so he just picked up the ball and ran for the basket laughing hysterically all the way.

It was a blast to watch--and a memory I know they will never forget.  Now my job is to make this story into a poem for Chicken Soup for the Basketball Lover's Soul.  Any ideas?

Meuser Movie Stars

With our tax refund we bought a new computer. Put that together with the digital camcorder I got for Christmas and you get my first movie!

You can check it out at www.youtube.com/meuser5. These are all teams that Dan and I coach for Upward (a Christian sports league). Lauren is the littlest cheerleader in the front for the song and the first one to say her name during the cheer. Jordan and Caitlin are the very enthusiastic basketball players.

Note: The announcer of the basketball game pronounces our name wrong. It's Moi-zer. But that's a whole other blog.

Pizza, Pie, and Prayer

Our church put together 24-hours of prayer this weekend. My husband took our 8-year-old son with him to the prayer room for his one hour shift. When I went for my shift I was able to read what Jordan had written on the paper covered walls--he prayed for the salvation of his friends. It was so sweet (even though it sounded as if he just wanted them on his heavenly basketball team) that I was overcome with tears of thankfulness.

So many other amazing things happened, and it all culminated in a pizza/pie party after church today. I won the pie-baking contest and I tried to get my husband to do the pie eating contest, but he refused. (Pictured is our youth pastor Afro Phil.) There was also pizza bingo for the kids and a build your own mini-pie that came with a scripture verse about "being filled with fruit." Who ever said church is boring?
