Crying Over Cupcakes
Today is my daughter's birthday. She got to be line leader and snack helper in preschool. That's a big deal. So, like a good mom, I bought beautiful pink cupcakes for her to share.
We got to school this morning and Lauren was more excited than she's ever been. I walk her to her class and present the beautiful treats. That's when the preschool teacher informed me of the "no cupcake policy." I'm serious.
Lauren was okay, but I felt bad enough for both of us. I was disappointed that they couldn't make an exception to the rule, and I was mad at myself for not knowing the rule. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to pick up another snack because I had to get to the gym to teach my class.
I called my husband and ranted about how much I hate preschool. I mean, they prioritize keeping the carpet clean from frosting over my daughter's 5th birthday. That's just messed up.
Dan did his thing and calmed me down. I considered passing out the cupcakes in the parking lot after preschool (and becoming a cupcake pusher), but I ended up taking the cupcakes to my step class instead.
The participants enjoyed them, though if ever there was a place to have a "no cupcake policy" it should be Gold's Gym. But hey, it's Valentine's Day. And I'm a nice teacher. I made an exception and gave my class a treat.

That really stinks! I can't believe that they would turn away a five year-olds birthday cupcakes... on Valentines Day!=(
That's a pretty harsh policy! I've heard that "suggestion", but never a policy.
I'm glad your daughter was okay with it. And what better place to push fattening yumminess than a gym! LOL
Jenster, I thought you might be on the preschool's side, since you work at a preschool. But I'm glad you guys don't have that policy. Harsh is the right word.
How ridiculous is that? Don't they have a moppable floor area for snack-times there?
Oy, rules, rules, rules. My son's school has one that you can't bring home-baked goodies, but can bring store-bought in sealed containers. I still don't see the logic in that one.
At least they were still put to good use! ;0)
That's a good point, Becky. The classroom is right next to a gym and kitchen area where they have potlucks. Frosting would have not hurt that floor.
As for the homemade stuff...my mother-in-law was thinking about getting her food handlers license so she could bake cookies at home and take them to her class. I don't think I'll be doing that.
That's aweful! And all for the sake of carpet? Yeah, I'd be outraged as well and Chad would get an earful.
Now, a gym that hands out cupcakes? That's my kinda place.
;-)
